Snowboarder on the Front Pages

JENNY JONES IS NEW NATIONAL TREASURE

Jenny Jones became a ‘national sporting icon’ last night, yeah snowboarding!

As if the thought of a British snowboarder getting an Olympic medal wasn’t bizarre enough, how about a British snowboarder topping national headlines?

Jenny Jones has the full package for a media with no huge stories hungry for a fresh piece; clean cut, smiley, proud parents and a recent film to draw comparisons with, it was a news story package handed to them on a plate.

Not that it isn’t well deserved, we all know how hard Ms Jones has worked over the years, especially when it comes to helping slopestyle gain enough accreditation to be accepted into the ‘Lympics. Well done Jenny! The BBC went with the first Olympic medallist on snow story…

Jenny on the BBC…

…as did the Guardian…

Jenny on The Guardian…

…whilst the Daily Mail seemed more interested in Possum Torr’s ‘Tinder’ habits. A crucial story there.

This isn’t Jenny, but it is hilarious

Even a bronze medal couldn’t sway the Metro away from the traditional Olympic game of looking out for funny foreign names; Jenny once again in third place on their website, behind Mr Semen and Mr Wank…

Funny names beat out a bronze, this is still the UK after all…

…But she still managed to make the front page of their print edition, hopefully the ‘Flood Of Regret’ isn’t a reference to Ed Leigh’s post comp tears.

Jenny on the Metro…

The news even spread as far as Cornwall where Whitelines has set up its Olympic HQ, don’t ask why…

However the media approaches the story, this can only be a good thing for British snowboarding in terms of funding and getting more people involved. Again, well done Jenny, and thanks!
