In theory, JibWorx’ EnviroJam might not have worked. But in reality it did.

In partnership with the Climate Coalition and WWF– JibWorx and Hemel Snow Centre hosted the first event of its kind this July. A dome comp with a few twists – subtle enough, but effective.

The aim was to bring the issue of climate change to the surface in a group that is directly affected by shifting weather patterns, and to start to initiate discussion and positive action so that the UK snowboard scene can do our bit to combat it. All while throwing an accessible comp with a friendly atmosphere; and by all accounts, they succeeded.

On the slopes a full turnout pushed the limits of the venue – with one lift temporarily unavailable, it was a bit more hustle and bustle than usual, but if anything this just added to the atmosphere; regular Hemel-hammerer Jamie Nicholls doing more than his fair share to up the ante, while graciously leaving the competition to the riders who’ve yet to see their first Olympics. And while the set-up allowed progressive riders to push those boundaries, the features were kept open to all riders throughout the evening, which gave the whole thing a fully inclusive vibe. Topped off with quality prizes from Smokin Snowboards, Brethren Apparel, Hodr Outerwear and many more – and we reckon they’re on to a winner with this one…
