The 2016 Freeride World Tour calendar has just been announced, so without any further ado here are the confirmed dates and venues:
Vallnord Arcalis, Andorra – 23rd January
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France – 6th February
Fieberbrunn Kitzbüheler Alpen, Austria – 6th March
Haines, Alaska, USA – 17th March
Verbier Xtreme, Switzerland – 2nd April
Anyone who followed last year’s tour will notice that the calendar is much the same as the previous season’s: four European stops and only one North American venue. There was a little controversy around the announcement this time last year, but this time around the memory from the last tour should still be fresh in everyone’s minds – despite a low tide winter in most locations it was still one of the best yet!
Great news as well that Alaska remains on the calendar, last winter’s stop there was a definite highlight, a completely different experience to watching the FWT at other venues, especially with Ed ‘Wopper Cock’ Leigh on board for the commentary! And with an El Nino season predicted all through the Northern Hemisphere along with almost the whole cast of Point Break plus Sascha Hamm all signed on for another tour, this winter should be a an absolute spectacle – we’ll be watching for sure!
