Mini Creative Use of Space 2012 – Burton Canadian Open

Mini have once again teamed up with Burton to to continue their unlikely but seemingly lasting relationship. For the second year running the Mini Creative Use of Space competition will run during Burton’s Global Open Series (BGO) and the duo have released the first 3D draft of the feature that will be making an appearance at the Burton Canadian Open (BCO) in Calgary.

Local park shaper Ryan Neptune was given $5000 to come up with his own unique feature for the BCO and has created a very skate influenced obstacle. We aren’t exactly sure whether the white Mini is a pre-requisite in the design but the snow fun box looks pretty sick and definitely very fun to ride nonetheless. Ryan’s creation will then be judged against features from the the other stops on the BGO tour with the winner pocketing a cool $5000 and the prestigious Creative Use of Space Feature Award.

Ryan and his park crew say that they were inspired by a skatepark feature in Portland and they hope that the fun box will challenge snowboarders who have a skateboarding background, so expect creative lines and gaps. “Riders who are also into skateboarding will understand the obstacle better and will therefore be able to tackle it in an even more creative way,“ said the shaper.

Riders in the BGO Series will also be in with a chance of winning $2500 for the most creative use of the most creative feature (bit of a tongue twister). The BCO runs from January 30 – February 5 and can be watched live here
