Peetu Piiroinen has given himself a good chance of retaining the Swatch TTR title for a second year running after an outstanding performance at the 6 Star O’Neill Evolution event getting 3rd place in both halfpipe and slopestyle.
The slopestyle event wasn’t done any favours by the flat light that enveloped the course for the whole day or the cold temperatures making the course solid ice, but still the tricks being thrown about were insane. Marko Grilc had the best run of the day with both a double backflip and double cork 1080 landed clean and a 50/50 to backflip off thrown in for good measure, god knows how he didn’t fall over dizzy! Even with this win, Marko has been pushed into 2nd place in the Swatch TTR rankings by Piiroinen.
Big shout out to UK rider Jamie Nicholls who after competing hard didn’t quite make the cut into the finals. He had this to say about the competition “I thought the Oneill Evolution was great this year. I liked the format and the standard of riding was so sick! I have been going to the O’neill now for 3 years and i have never been disappointed.” He finished 24th in the comp and is now placed 24th in the TTR.
