Mark McMorris Out of Action After Air + Style Leg Break

Injuries suck outright, anyone who’s been taken off in the blood wagon will tell you that. But when your injury is a fluke occurrence that could’ve easily gone any other way, the frustration is manifested tenfold. Case in point: Mark McMorris’ post-slam slam and femur break at Air + Style Los Angeles this weekend.

The incident in question happened on Sunday, when, with a clean back triple 14 already in the bag, Mark came close to landing the frontside variation of the trick in his second run (the combination of which helped Max Parrot take 1st at Air + Style Beijing). But it was not to be. As you’ll see below, a butt-check on the landing quickly turned into a leg-tweaking edge catch as he tried to self-right, with a broken leg in the process meaning obvious repercussions for the rest of the competition, and unfortunately now the rest of the season too…

Now Mark McMorris is no stranger to injury – back in 2014 he managed to win Olympic Slopestyle bronze only seven days after a cracked rib at X-Games – but after going into surgery yesterday, it appears highly improbable that we’ll see such a speedy turnaround. With broken femur recovery times estimated at at least four to six months, presumably the current hope is that intensive rehab will allow him to return to full strength for next season. We’ll keep a keen eye on that as it progresses.

“I’m disappointed to have to sit out for some time, but I am looking forward to getting back on snow as soon as possible” said the man himself in a press release from Canada Snowboard.

Here’s hoping that that’s sooner rather than later, and in the meantime, we’re joining this lot in wishing McLuvin’ a smooth and speedy recovery…
