While the majority of resorts this side of the equator have now closed their doors for snowboarding and skiing until winter, there are many more in the Alps (particularly those at higher altitudes) that offer summer glacier shredding – perfect for those of us that simply can’t bear the thought of going cold turkey until November.
One such resort is Les 2 Alpes which, thanks to it’s high altitude of up to 3600m, and the stockpiling of snow throughout the winter to fuel the resort over the warmer months, offers great summer glacier snowboarding. Les 2 Alpes has been building amazing summer parks for years and as such, attracts park rats and jib monkeys from far and wide between June and September. You could put up a convincing argument to say that it has one of the best summer parks in Europe and has a wide variety of features to suit beginners right up to pros. It also has two halfpipes, one of which is a 22 foot behemoth that even Shaun White would give the nod of approval to (it meets the Olympic halfpipe specifications). The resort also runs a freestyle camp called ‘DaCamp’ all summer long that offers various coaching plus accommodation options.
The glacier is set to open for riding this Saturday (16th June) and a day pass will set you back a very reasonable €35.30. If you want to make a whole week of it, a full 6 day pass that also lets you take advantage of the swimming pool, ice rink, tennis, golf and watersports comes in at €177. Well worth looking into if you’re craving those bluebird, t-shirt riding conditions and a banging summer park.
