Last week visitors at Beech Mountain Resort in North Carolina got more than they bargained for when they were caught on a chairlift directly above a broken water line. The incident occurred after a skier hit a water hydrant during snowmaking operations and resulted in unfortunate guests getting battered by a relentless stream of frigid water, not quite our idea of a relaxing day on the slopes. No amount of Gore-Tex pro shells could save you from this one, this gives a whole new meaning to the term water skiing.
We’re hearing reports of skiers even being blown off the lift due to the inordinately high water pressure. Looks like the management at Beech Mountain took ‘Spray Skiers’ a bit too literally. The resort made a statement: “The hydrant was under a loaded chair, resulting in several patrons getting wet. Our operations and safety team worked diligently to unload the lift and drain the system safely. Avery EMS transported two patrons to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
