The 21/22 StaleFish has to be one of the best looking boards of the season, it goes without saying you should never buy a board just for the topsheet… but thankfully the deck itself is also an absolute banger. With this underfoot you’ll not only feel like you’re channelling the god himself, but you’ll look hella fly too.

Who Is The Rome StaleFish For?

If you’re searching for a board that will not only make riding deep pow a doddle, but can also absolutely rail a carve then look no further. The StaleFish not only has your back, but opens up the chance to add some freestyle flair to your riding. So even if you’re not in the park you can still show off your creative side.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Good riders might get a pro board, but Stale is a boss so he gets a full quiver, each of which is uniquely shaped for different conditions and Stale’s own brand of terrain destruction. The Stale Fish is no exception with a directional shape and a 20mm taper in the back this thing is built for easy float in the soft stuff.

On the nose you’ll not only find some rocker in the boards profile, but a Directional Diamond 3D shape that essentially turns the nose into a bow of a ship as the sides of the base are raised up. This channels the snow away from the nose and off to the sides as you blast through it to give you maximum lift on deep powder days as well as easier turn initiation.

The free the ride camber profile not only has that rocker in the nose for float, but a flat section under your front foot for stability and camber in the tail. This adds a lot of versatility to the board as you can still load up some pop in that tail for bigger tricks in the backcountry. It also gives you something to push back against for nimbler turns should you find yourself in the trees and allows for much stronger carves on the piste.

“The run & gun sinterstrong base is a more easily repairable should you ding it on an unexpected rock and will ensure that speed is something you never struggle with”

Construction and Materials

Under the hood you’ll find Rome’s versatile Popcore that uses an even blend of Poplar and Paulownia wood strips as well as both Biax and Triax fibreglass. For the less jargon-fluent amongst us that means that there is a layer of fibreglass that runs on 2axis (Biax) in the board to add some flex and play in the boards torsional flex.

Then, on top of the core you’ll find fibreglass that runs on all 3 axis (Triax) to add some rigidity and snap to the board for more response and pop.

Perhaps the smartest part of the core construction though is the Bamboo Omega Hotrod in the nose. In short you’ll find a thin rod of bamboo front and centre on the Stale Fish that’s wrapped in an omega shaped carbon housing. This combo not only helps to increase the boards responsiveness, but dampens out a lot of the chatter that is common in tapered directional shapes like this when you start charging them full tilt into less than perfect conditions.

The run & gun sinterstrong base is a more easily repairable should you ding it on an unexpected rock and will ensure that speed is something you never struggle with.

“Stale is a master of style and flair anywhere on the mountain and the Fish is his weapon of choice to tackle the steeper, deeper days away from the park”

Roundup

Stale is a master of style and flair anywhere on the mountain and the Fish is his weapon of choice to tackle the steeper, deeper days away from the park. It’s perfectly built to not only handle hard charging through snorkel deep powder, but still has enough pop and energy that you can channel some freestyle magic into your line. It’s a deck that feels as fun as it looks and you’d be hard pushed to find something bad to say about it.
