When it comes to keeping the elements out, Gore-Tex does do a banging job. However, if used without insulation, the membrane itself doesn’t do much when it comes to keeping you warm. Burton has brought together the best of both worlds here. Their AK Gore-Tex Insulated Summit pants are equally waterproof, windproof and warm.
For the insulation, Burton’s used Primaloft’s synthetic insulation. The upside with synthetic insulation is that even when wet, it will continue insulating (unlike down). This makes synthetic insulation a great option, especially when facing more wet/damp conditions. Synthetic insulation is also very compressible, meaning you can store these pants in the tiniest space.

In addition to using a Gore-Tex membrane and Primaloft insulation, Burton’s living lining system takes care of your body’s temperature regulation. When your body heats up, the smart fibres in the material open up like pores in your skin, allowing for heat to escape. As you cool down, the fibres contract to trap heat.
The Summit Pants are also bluesign approved. A bluesign label means the product in question has been manufactured in a process that manages natural resources in a more efficient way, produces cleaner air and water emissions, and only use chemicals that are deemed safe for people and the planet.
The regular fit means that you won’t be pulling on a pair of really baggy pants. As Burton puts it, they are ‘not too tight or too baggy’.
The Burton AK Gore-Tex Insulated Summit Pants are designed for the backcountry. If you often find yourself feeling cold when you’re out and about, you’ll definitely come to appreciate the added insulation.
