The Rome Guild is essentially the Katana with slightly specced down components. That said, it more than makes up for any shortcomings with that colourway. Stick this on the Heist and you’ve got yourself one hell of a beach party.
As with the Katanas, the Guild sits in among the AsymWrap side of the family. This means you have that same lightweight, aluminium chassis with asymmetric contact points attached to the baseplate. There are two connections on the inside but only one on the outside of the feet. The result is a pretty dynamic blend of a looser, surfy ride, with increased mobility towards the ends of the board, but with the support and lockdown provided from the two points of contact on the inside. As a result, the Guild doesn’t need to position itself as either a park or freestyle binding; it can handle both sides of snowboarding through both sides of the binding.

That’s further enhanced with Rome’s Pivot Mount Technology, which allows you to switch between low, medium and high mounting positions on the heel straps. In its lowest setting, the Guilds offer a lot of ankle flex in the boot, so the board will feel less responsive, but as a result, more forgiving to get creative with when you’re in the park. When the straps are adjusted to their highest position, the response is much more immediate and best suited to faster, harder, freeriding. If you’re not sure where you’ll find yourself riding that day, the middle setting will make the best of both worlds.
Naturally, some things are omitted with the lower price point, such as the super dampening base plate and the more premium highback. Saying that, there’s still a hell of a lot of binding on offer here.
