Despite their obvious backcountry, freeride and splitboard heritage, Jones snowboards are no strangers to the resort. They are, however, a little less familiar inside the park’s ropes. Designed specifically for high-end freestyle and carving performance, the Aviator sets out to put things right.
Given its name, there are no surprises this one’s performance is tailored to the air. The takeoff and landing gears are equally impressive, with the Power Camber operating exactly how it sounds. There’s a touch of early rocker in the nose and tail, but the Aviator has all the pop and rebound that’s needed for launching off the jumps or holding an edge longer than you’ll hold your nerve through the carve.

It’s also specced up with a Triax Carbon Innegra layer, just under the topsheet, for lightning-fast response that’s built to handle the bumpy landings and eliminate turbulence.
The directional twin shape still sets you back just a touch on the board, giving you a slight advantage when leading with your front leg and charging through the resort. That said, out of all the Jones lineup, the Aviator is the most at home going switch.
That’s partly down to the 3D contours in the base of nose and tail, which loosen up the contact points just enough to prevent the deadliest hookups. Traction still comes by the bucketload though. There are disruptions along the edge, both underfoot and in the middle of the sidecut, to keep you cutting through the hardpack.
Jones continues to pioneer the best eco-alternatives, without ever compromising performance – often actually improving it. New for this year’s Aviator, is an Eco-plastic topsheet, Super Sap Bio Resin which shaves a huge chunk off the board’s carbon footprint, and the updated triple-density full wood Power Core. Saving the planet never felt so damn good.
