Gnu B-Nice 2018-2019 Women’s Snowboard Review

  • Sizes: 139, 142, 145, 148, 151, 154

Not to be confused with Barrett Christy’s signature board the B-Pro, the Gnu B-Nice women’s snowboard is aimed less at the thrill-seeker and more at the hobbyist. However, it’s not without a few great features that separate it from more run-of-the-mill fare.

For starters, the Gnu B-Nice is asymmetrical in its design. The sidecut is different on either side, to better match how a rider’s body manages heel and toeside turns. As the graphics suggest, though, the ride is exactly the same whichever way you point it.

“The Magne-traction ensures it’ll bite like a hungry salmon when it needs to”

Extra edge performance comes from the Magne-traction edges, which provide more grip on solid pistes and even ice. Given that the Gnu B-Nice features a rocker profile (similar to that of the much-loved Lib Tech Skate Banana), it otherwise might have struggled in such conditions, but the Magne-traction ensures it’ll bite like a hungry salmon when it needs to.

That profile makes this float so well in powder, especially for a twin-shaped deck, and messing about on features in the park is a breeze. Riders wanting to slay the bigger kickers, or the pipe, would probably be better off with Gnu’s other B-board, though.

For everyone else, the Gnu B-Nice women’s snowboard has ‘all-mountain fun’ written all over it.

Tester’s Verdict

“The B-Nice was a lovely ride, although it took me a minute to get used to the profile – but as soon as I settled into it I had a great day riding this.

A very forgiving board, I felt as though I could afford to make a few mistakes or have a few wobbles and the board would consistently have your back and not keep punishing you for little errors.

The B-Nice floated well on the little bit of powder that we had, and smashed through the bigger snow build-ups on piste. The turn initiation felt very natural and easy, and it made getting down to some carves very pleasant.

I would recommend this to a rider looking for a board that will be a constant confidence-booster, that they can grow and progress with across the whole mountain.”
