Dragon X2 2018-2019 Snowboard Goggles Review

If you want Dragon’s famed ‘Swiftlock’ system on a frameless model with a spherical lens, then the Dragon X2 snowboard goggles is your answer. Dragon was the brand first to crack the lens-dominant design, and continues to lead the pack.

The large lens of the Dragon X2 is held in place by small levers on either side of the frame. Flick ‘em down and the lens is released, then simply return them to their previous position once the new lens is in place. It’s quick, easy, and reliable – one of the best systems around.

The impact-proof venting keeps the lens fog-free even after your hundredth spill, and the Lumalens tech delivers an incredibly crisp, high-contrast perspective on the mountain. Thanks to a water-, dust- and scratch-repellant coating, you can expect a clear picture all day long.

As ever, the range of available frame and lens styles is almost overwhelming. A Bryan Igunchi collab is among the strap options, and the tints range from night-riding clear to five different bluebird-day options. There’s still no auto-adjusting ‘photochromic’ lenses for the Dragon X2 goggles, but then why would you want to pay more for something that renders that great Swiftlock system obsolete?

For smaller faces there’s the Dragon X2s, with all the same great tech but in a more petite package.

Tester’s Verdict

“I’m a big fan of the X2. The large spherical lens provides a super wide field of vision, and the levers on the side not only let you change the lens in record time but also lock in the lens into the frame securely (just make sure you click them the whole way down).

I’ve used these in a variety of conditions and they rarely fog up on me (only when I’m digging out of tree wells etc!). They’re compatible with most helmets out there, and the silicon on the inside of the strap stops the X2 from sliding off your helmet and leaving you looking like a massive muppet on the mountain.”

Tester’s Verdict

“The X2 is the evolution of Dragon’s original frameless goggle. I have used this model for the past two years, and love it.

“The Lumalens tech offers such clarity and definition it’s unreal”

The lenses are super easy to change; you don’t even need to take the goggles off your face when swapping them. The two catches at the sides lock securely in place, so you know the lens is going nowhere.

The Lumalens tech offers such clarity and definition it’s unreal – the low light flash blue lens in particular is so good on those shitty days.

This would usually be my first choice for goggles, although the new Dragon PXV might be even better!”
