Nidecker Prosper 2018-2019 Kids’ Snowboard Bindings Review

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Nidecker Prosper here

Relatively speaking, Nidecker snowboard bindings tend to be a bit spartan. There isn’t the same levels of tech that you’d find in, say, sister company Flow’s high-end models. The same is true of its youth range, which includes the Nidecker Prosper kids’ snowboard bindings.

The baseplate of the Nidecker Prosper bindings is designed to be more flexible from side to side than from heel to toe. The result is that edge changes will still be quick, but more of the board’s natural longitudinal flex will be able to shine through. Perhaps your kid won’t be conscious of the difference, but it could give their riding a boost all the same.

“The EVA padding present in the footbed and the highback is there to provide all-day comfort”

Both straps require a screwdriver to adjust, but once you get them in place then they should compliment any boot well. The toe strap’s large cut-out makes it ideal for an over-the-toe fit, but it can also be laid across the top of the boot if that’s what the rider would prefer. As for padding, the EVA present in the footbed and the highback is there to provide all-day comfort.

So the Nidecker Prosper bindings are functional, if not particularly flashy, and the features they do have are more than enough to build the confidence of any progressing young rider. Should your grom prefer a more colourful version, there’s also the Nidecker Flake bindings – nominally for girls, but essentially the same.

Tester’s Verdict

Lightning – Whitelines Grom Team

“The straps kept coming undone or they wouldn’t undo so I didn’t trust them, they also froze up so I couldn’t undo them.”

Dad’s Comments

“These are very basic bindings. If you’re on a budget then they might be worth considering, but they felt like rental level spec. There were no washers on the bolts, the straps are adult size and max out regularly, and the buckles froze shut so I had to stop and help the kids get out of their boards at the end of runs.”
