K2 Lien AT 2018-2019 Snowboard Bindings Review

The Lien FS has undergone a bit of a rebrand, but the K2 Lien AT snowboard bindings remain. More freeride-focused than almost anything else in the brand’s stable, these are nevertheless not your conventional pair of chargers.

The main point of interest on the K2 Lien AT snowboard bindings is the ‘Tripod’ chassis. The baseplate sits on three pads – one at your heel, and one each at your big and little toe – made of shock-absorbing urethane. As you ride, your bindings and boots move in unison, rocking from side to side across the length of the board.

The result is a ‘surfier’ feel that many snowboarders have found to be more intuitive than the full-contact alternative. While the tough nylon highback will help deliver instantaneous heelside response when you want it, the overall feel has none of the straight-jacket vibes that some freeride bindings are guilty of.

The ankle strap is the only major change for 2018/19. Aptly called the ‘Sender’ strap, it has dispensed with all superfluous padding in favour of a low-profile, high-response design. We reckon it’s an improvement, and puts a bit more water between the K2 Lien AT and the Line Up.

If you like charging, but want to try something a little different, then these come highly recommended.

Tester’s Verdict

Tom Copseyonboardmag.com

“When you strap into a set of bindings and immediately get that snug foot-and-lower-leg hug, the chances are you’re onto a winner. That was definitely the case with the latest version of K2’s Lien AT bindings – no doubt in part due to its new ankle strap.

“You can really feel the more natural flex and vibration dampening that K2’s Tripod baseplate chassis offers”

From the first run they were as comfortable, secure and responsive as you could hope for from a set of two-strappers, the mid-to-stiff flex delivering precise energy transmission for powerful turning, yet allowing you enough wiggle room to be happy just playing around.

You can really feel the more natural flex and vibration dampening that K2’s Tripod baseplate chassis offers, and everything was super easy to adjust in the mad rush of a board test.

A great option for all-terrain riders who want solid performance wherever they’re riding.”
