UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Rome Katana here
If you’ve had a look at multiple freestyle- and freeride-specific bindings in this year’s guide, and are still torn on what to opt for, then we’d be happy to suggest the Rome Katana snowboard bindings. These are truly a best-of-both-worlds solution, although as a result they don’t come cheap.
The Rome Katana bindings are rock-solid at high speeds, thanks to the strong aluminium chassis with integrated heelcup. Every edge change, even at eye-watering velocity, will be damn near instantaneous and smooth.
“The clever bods at Rome have made it easier for you to move your weight from one tip of your snowboard to the other”

That chassis only goes along the inside of each boot, though; by giving the Rome Katana bindings this asymmetrical platform, the clever bods have made it easier for you to move your weight from one end of your snowboard to the other. Forego the ‘locked-in’ feel that some bindings give you, and instead enjoy a surfier ride.
In the park, you’ve got a solid foundation with which to hit the biggest features, but also a bit of leeway for all the tweaks and pokes you can muster. That newly-designed highback offers plenty of support, but thanks to that cut-out line it can be flexed quite easily too.
The cost of the Rome Katana bindings will always be an issue for some, but given its immense customisation features, quality build and proven longevity, if your budget can stretch to these then that’s an option well worth considering.
