Bataleon has increased the Fun.Kink’s stiffness rating this year, although the change is nothing drastic. Bamboo has been removed from the core, and it’s now all poplar and paulownia.

It still has a classic camber profile, and all the benefits that come with it; more pop and better edge hold being the main ones. It’s not really stiff, but new carbon tubes along the edges allow it to carve harder and rebound better than you’d expect.

The ever-so-slightly directional shape helps in the powder, but the main advantage comes from – you guessed it – the 3BT. The hull-like nose pushes up through deep snow with ease, parting it like the Red Sea and giving you the freedom to think about your next hit rather than staying afloat.

The base may be extruded rather than sintered, but this particular variety is as tough as they come. For less upkeep you still get an impressive amount of speed – certainly more than enough for a board designed for fun, seat-of-your-pants riding. As a solid all-rounder, just about everyone should check out the Bataleon Fun.Kink – but for those whose love for snowboarding has waned a little recently, this is just the kind of thing to get you back on track.
