Helgasons Launch Lobster Snowboards

Yep, that’s right. Not content with merely being two of the best riders on the planet, the Helgasons have decided to strike out on their own, leave their board sponsors and start their own brand. Lobster Snowboards will be “a snowboarding brand we believe in and are stoked on”, according to Eiki. He added: “You can expect randomness, creativity and fun… or at least what me and Halldor think is fun”. So far, the cheeky Icelandic chappies have announced three boards, the Parkboard, the Jibboard and the Girlboard. Interestingly they’ve also announced that they’ll be licensing Bataleon’s Triple Base Technology and featuring it on all their sticks – making them the only brand other than Bataleon to have it.

Since Halldor left DC earlier this season to join the Nike 6.0 team, he’s been riding Rome boards borrowed off his brother. Eiki was still on Rome, but rumours had been rife about him leaving the board brand. While it’s not yet been confirmed that he’ll be joining his brother the decision to leave Rome’s board program and start their own company certainly opens the door for a move to Nike… Halldor saying things like: “Eiki and me wanted to get on the same board program since day one. We really have fun and push each other when we ride together so this was a logical step for us” only adds grist to the rumour mill.

But in the meantime, we can’t wait to see what randomness Eiki and Halldor have got in store for us with their new company. I mean these are the kids who “don’t believe in bears”. The website for their new brand will go live at the start of next month, and they’ll no doubt be showing off some of their boards at the massive ISPO trade show in Germany. As soon as we know more, so will you!
