The boys at YES. Snowboards have had a busy year. All three are putting their names to a limited UnInc collection, inspired from some of the brand’s best-selling models and injected with a new lease of fresh materials and some properly eye-catching topsheets. DCP has taken the outrageously fun Hybrid snowboard and brought the beach party to the mountains with a new limited graphic design.

“Described as the love child between the 420 and the PYL, it’s no surprise that the Hybrid is primarily aimed at riders who are getting their kicks away from the pistes and park”

Who Is The YES. Hybrid UnInc For?

Described as the love child between the 420 and the PYL, it’s no surprise that the Hybrid is primarily aimed at riders who are getting their kicks away from the pistes and park. Blending the volume shifted nature of the 420 with the super-precise edge hold and responsive turning experience of the PYL, this thing’s as happy scoring low-angle powder in the trees as it is taking on steeper lines and hard-packed conditions.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Be open to downsizing a few cm from your conventional freeride snowboard size if you’re planning on purchasing one of these for the winter. The Hybrid adopts a wider than average waist width to maintain its impressive levels of float, but it also benefits from that shorter running length to make those snappy, slashy turns around the mountain.

Even with rocker sections in the nose and tail, there’s enough camber through the midsection of the Hybrid to always feel plenty of firepower underfoot, and as far as powder-focussed boards go, this one is a real joy to ride on the pistes.

A large part of that is thanks to YES.’ unique Tapered UnderBite, which breaks the sidecut into three segmented sections. The closer you move towards the tail, the deeper the sidecut becomes and the tighter you can crank those angles at the end of the turn. That also lends itself nicely to the boards’ floating credentials, as the narrower tail sinks more easily into deeper snow. Don’t expect too many miracles if you’re riding it in switch though – it’s definitely set up for directional riding.

Construction and Materials

The construction remains as solid and fast as it does on the original Hybrid, with the added addition of a slightly stiffer tail to really launch you out of your turns. The flex sits at seven out of ten, so it’s definitely better suited to a confident intermediate and up. If you fit the bill, though, you should find there’s enough room from the top end of the flex rating to still get some powder butters and more surfy-inspired riding on the go – which is exactly what DCP intended when first designing the Hybrid.

“It’s a snowboard that exceeds all expectations and is entirely deserving of its almighty reputation”

Roundup

The Hybrid has only been around for three seasons but has already garnered a reputation among riders as one of the most exciting boards from YES. That’s no mean feat, especially when you consider it sits alongside the likes of the 2020 and the Optimistic. But rather than turning out as some kind of a half-baked, Jekyll and Hyde fusion of the 420 and PYL, it’s a snowboard that exceeds all expectations and is entirely deserving of its almighty reputation.
