The Salomon Ultimate Ride does what it says on the tin- it’s the ultimate ride– it manages to pack an entire quiver into just one board and look good doing it. If you’ve ever seen Big Bode Merrill’s riding you’ll know that he loves to mix it up with a spot of powder in the morning, couple of street rails after lunch and finish it off in the pipe at golden hour. Bouncing into 2020/21 with an updated shape, this is certainly no one trick pony.

If you’re looking for a softer, more forgiving freestyle board to jib around on then you might want to look at the Salomon Villain. The Ultimate Ride is beefy and would be best suited to progressive riders looking to push their snowboarding, hitting bigger features with more speed and stability.

Two carbon beams are inserted at both the nose and tail to give this board increased pop for those big feature take-offs and help to keep the board steady underfoot as you are charging around resort. The tapered twin shape puts an extra 5mm of width in the nose, thinning out to a fully blunt tail to help keep you tracking on top in the powder. A smidge of rocker in the nose and tail help to lift those out the snow when it’s getting deep.

A powerful Quad Camber profile extends right out to the contact points, this delivers an explosive pop down the full length of the board. Two carbon beams sit in the nose and tail, relaying energy out from the inserts for a boost of power when you load them up. It’s got carbon inlays that run the full length, giving this board the snappy responsiveness it needs whilst at the same time, dampening any unwanted vibrations when you’re throwing down those big landings or ripping mach 10 down groomers.

Salomon has added a high-end finish to its Sintered EG Base, so you’ll be sure to leave your mates in the dust… or maybe the slush. The Ultimate Ride has been finished with their secret Area 51 wax recipe, it’s positively out of this world.

If you’re a big mountain charger with a penchant for freestyle, be it gigantic backcountry booter sessions or lofty cab 1’s off windlips, the Ultimate Ride will have your back from day one.

Tester’s Verdict 2017/18

Jon Birdldmountaincentre.com

“The Salomon Ultimate Ride snowboard is another do-it-all charger, and Bode’s signature model is packed with all the tech you expect in a pro board.

“The Ultimate Ride has an aggressive feel without being too full on…”

The Ultimate Ride has an aggressive feel without being too full on thanks to the quad camber you can really feel the float in powder, yet when you want to charge and carve down the groomers you’ll have the grip and edge hold needed. This board packs some heat a speed, but still is forgiving enough to keep things smooth and stable. It’s all in the name.”
