The Details:
As the name suggests, the Never Summer Proto Type Two is the natural successor to the Proto HD, one of the Colorado-based brand’s most famous models. That one was designed to be their ‘Swiss Army Knife’, ready for action in all conditions – will the new version measure up?
The big difference that the Never Summer Proto Type Two displays is its asymmetric shape. The sidecut on the heel side is tighter than of the toe side, designed to better match the different forces at play in the two turns. Each edge also features a blend of sidecut radii, so grip is enhanced with the use of multiple contact points.
The Proto Type Two now boasts the enhanced flavour of NS’ rocker/camber combo, with pronounced camber sections under the feet that grip the hard pack even more than ever. On piste, and on freshly groomed features in the park, expect precision edge hold at all times.
They’re not known for low prices, so you have to pay a premium for Never Summer boards like this. However, when you factor in the peak-to-park versatility, as well as the Three Year Warranty, it could be a wise investment. Female riders should keep an eye out for the women’s version, also new for this year.
