K2 Subculture 2016-2017 Snowboard Review

The Details:

K2 garners plenty of (well deserved) attention for its Enjoyer series, with shapes like the Party Platter and CarveAir offering something a little out of the ordinary. However, their more conventional sticks shouldn’t be overlooked – least of all the K2 Subculture.

This one is built for everything, with a true twin outline and a slightly setback stance. Cruise down the groomers one minute, then spin off a park feature the next – all options are open. The Subculture features K2’s ‘Lifted’ profile; a mostly flat base is raised by rocker sections at each end. This delivers all the versatility you’d expect, but offers a little more pop and edge hold than a true flatty.

Under the hood there’s plenty of strong, lightweight carbon, present in both the ‘Ollie Bar’ insert and a lattice weaved into the fibreglass. Whether you’re wanting to scream down the piste or launch it skywards, it’s got you covered.

The K2 Subculture is definitely an all-mountain board, but will better suit those who like their freestyle. Both in the park and out of it, this is a definite trick pony – treat it as such and you won’t be sorry.

TESTER’S VERDICT:

Adam Hanmore – thesnowboardshop.co.uk

“This year’s K2 Subculture looks and performs much better than its price tag would suggest.

The lifted baseline profile definitely feels similar to camber. It’s less aggressive though, easing you in and out of short turns while still holding all the way through a long, sweeping carve. Although the flex does make you work for that carve, it’s well worth the effort.

It’s a little stiffer than what I like in an all mountain board, and so doesn’t make for a particularly playful ride. However, that means that it does feel stable at speed, with minimal chatter. It also has plenty of snap and pop.

If you’re an intermediate rider that wants to blast around the mountain with the occasional lap of the park, look no further.”
