Why we chose the Oakley Line Miner Snowboard Goggles: Style with maximised vision.

The Oakley Line Miner was created with one thought in mind: create a cylindrical lens that can provide the ultimate peripheral vision. A cylindrical shape is the OG goggle style and is sometimes said to not provide the same wide vision as a spherical lens. Oakley clearly felt the need to prove everyone wrong, and we’d say they’ve achieved that here with the Line Miner.

How did Oakley manage it then? Basically, the scientists nesting deep within the Oakley HQ realised they could pull the goggle closer in to the face, which allows for enhanced downwards and side-to-side periphery.

“This is the only goggle within the Oakley line that is compatible with their Prizm Inferno lens technology”

This is the only goggle within the Oakley line that is compatible with their Prizm Inferno lens technology. What this means, in a nutshell, is that with a push of a button you can make the inner lens fog disappear. The technology heats up the inside of the lens, causing the fog to evaporate and without the heat burning your face off.

If you feel like this frame is slightly too wide for your liking, give the smaller XM version a go. You’ll basically get the same goggles but without the Prizm Inferno lens technology.

“Like most of Oakley’s goggles, the Line Miner’s too have a triple foam to keep your face comfortably covered throughout the day”

Like most of Oakley’s goggles, the Line Miner’s too have a triple foam to keep your face comfortably covered throughout the day. Taking the comfort theme ever further, Oakley’s also made sure the goggles are compatible with most glasses, thanks to discreet frame notches at the temples.

If you’re looking for a pair of high-tech goggles but the thought of spending a fortune on a pair causes major anxiety within you, then the Oakely Line Miner’s will definitely give you value for your money.

Tester’s Verdict

Mike BrindleyWhitelines

“The Line Miner’s low-key stylish look is a winner in my books – cylindrical simplicity with an unobtrusive frame, bringing Prizm tech into a more wallet-friendly range.

“They also wrap around your face fully and give you a huge field of view to play with”

I tested a pair set up with Black Iridium Prizm lenses in place, and the whole outfit proved perfect for the sunniest of days – no worries about glare even for sensitive eyes.

The frames themselves are large and comfy – with the high-quality feeling foam you’d expect from a brand like Oakley. They also wrap around your face fully and give you a huge field of view to play with.”

Trade Secrets

Helen Tobin – Oakley, UK

“The Line Miner goggle was created with the purpose of providing the ultimate in peripheral vision, with a cylindrical-style design. We were able to pull the goggle in closer to your face than ever before, allowing for incredible downward and side-to-side periphery. With a large-sized fit, Line Miner is optimized for a wide variety of faces and is engineered to fit perfectly with most helmets.”
