Why we chose the Oakley Flight Deck Snowboard Goggles: Comfortable classics.

This spherical goggle is a favourite for many. The timeless look and discreet frame goes pretty much with any face and outfit (making it the popular choice it is today). Not only do they look rad though, these goggles have also got all the high tech aspects you’d come to expect from a brand like Oakley.

Oakley’s Flight Deck goggles give you a wide field of view, maximising your ability to spot everything that’s going on around you. Both the peripheral and downward vision are wide, which helps you to see the people who don’t know how to turn/stop on the slopes. This, in turn, makes you feel immensely more safe.

The Prizm technology is one of Oakley’s signatures. This technology, used in multiple lens, can help you see better on the mountain. Let’s say you head out on a sunny day, but the clouds start rolling in, encouraging you to change the lens. The technology provides enhanced colour clarity and improved contrast for detecting snow contours (it’s basically like seeing the mountains in high definition). You might still need to change a lens at some point, depending on the lens you’re wearing and the conditions, but the visibility provided by these is excellent. If you’re looking for a one lens (almost) does it all solution, go with either Sapphire, Jade, or Torch.

Not only can you see as clear as a hawk in these things, but you’ve also got the triple foam within the goggles to keep your face comfy through the whole day. The silicon strap has a good grip around your helmet too and is also easy to adjust – keeping your goggles in place.

Like the Oakley Fall Lines, the Flight Decks  are also compatible with most prescription eyewear out there – so if you prefer to keep your glasses on underneath the goggles you won’t need to deal with any discomfort.

If you fear that the frame might be a bit too wide for your delicate looks, Oakley’s made sure to please the people who prefer a smaller frame. The Oakley Flight Deck XM is a medium sized version of the goggle so if you prefer the OG look more, give them ago.

Tester’s Verdict

Stella PenttiWhitelines

“Even though I prefer a cylindrical lens to a spherical one, the Oakley Flight Decks aren’t overly spherical – if you get my point. The lens is spherical, but it doesn’t pop out as much as your average spherical lens (basically you’ll get that nice and wide vision a spherical lens gives you without looking like a mad-eyed fly).

“The view is clear and precise, and not once did the lens fog up either”

I was lucky enough to try the Flight Deck’s in quite a few different lens tints and, to be fair, the Prizm technology Oakley’s got going for them is really, really, good. The view is clear and precise, and not once did the lens fog up either. Swapping the lens is a piece of cake too, making these a really good option for anyone who prefers a spherical lens.”

Trade Secrets

Helen Tobin – Oakley, UK

“Inspired by the helmet visors of fighter pilots, the large-sized fit of Flight Deck maximizes your field of view so you won’t miss a single target of opportunity. It was engineered for seamless compatibility, giving you the flexibility to choose the helmet that fits your style. Designed with Oakley’s Ridgelock Technology, changing lenses is quick and easy while still allowing for a complete lens seal to prevent harsh conditions from penetrating into your goggle.”
