Dragon X2s 2016-2017 Snowboard Goggles Review

The Details:

Most goggles that go with the ‘frameless’ approach tend to be on the large side, which for some riders gives the sensation of being in a goldfish bowl. If you’d prefer something subtler – or just have a smaller-than-average bonce – then Dragon have you covered.

The Dragon X2s is the scaled-down version of the popular X2, and shares all of its winning features. There’s the ‘armoured venting’ that’s made of tough-yet-lightweight plastic, and the super-comfy foam with a hypoallergenic coating that keeps your face happy all day.

Changing lenses is just a matter of flicking the small levers on either side of the frame – it’s a simple, but highly effective, system that might be the quickest around (or close to it). Despite the downsizing, there’s still as much peripheral vision as you could ever need on the hill, and everything’s held in place thanks to the silicone layer on the inside of the strap.

As always, there’s a wealth of colourways to choose from, including a nifty collab with the folk at Teton Gravity Research.

Tester’s Verdict

Sam McMahon – Whitelines

“Whilst the ‘big spherical frameless goggles’ look has been around for a fair few seasons now, there’s no doubt that the Dragon X2s still packs a punch stylistically – worn right they do look truly awesome.

Like a lot of the higher end of the Dragon range, they feature the Swiftlock lens change system, which I personally think works best on these lenses due to their shape making them super easy to push into place, and the big plastic venting on top in place of foam. This makes fogging them an actual challenge, rather than a tedious inevitability. Great for wet, steamy days in the trees.

The one issue I had with the standard X2 was that there is a lot of weight on the front due to how far out the design goes, so the X2s is the perfect solution. A great high end goggle!”
