Why We Chose The Bataleon Blaster FASE
FASE is the biggest talking point of the year, and promises to carve its own niche in the fast-growing speed-entry market – delivering (relatively) fast entry without sacrificing the look and feel of a traditional two-strap binding. The Blaster showcases everything this system can do.
“The Blaster is another step forward in the world of binding design, offering faster entry without any extra weight or special boots”
Who Is The Bataleon Blaster FASE For?
Riders tempted by convenience but who are not yet ready to trade their classic two-straps for full-fat speed entry. This multi-brand collab is a new twist on the concept – offering one-handed operation while maintaining a simple lightweight chassis.

How does FASE work?
The FASE system centers around three key innovations. The AutoBack automatically closes when you step in and opens for exit, while the Lock-in ToeStrap uses tri-toothed ladders to maintain position between rides (eagle-eyed riders will see parallels here with Supermatic’s LSR 2.0 buckles). Most cleverly, the FastStrap ankle system stays connected via an extended ladder for genuine one-handed operation.
“FASE enters the chat with a different approach – borrowing the reclining highback from Supermatic while keeping the baseplate firmly in the ‘normal-looking’ department”

Baseplate, Straps and Highback
Bataleon’s AsymWrap aluminium frame enhances side-to-side flex while maintaining heel-to-toe power, supported by 3D AuxTech CradleStraps that eliminate pressure points. The asymmetric design means the binding rocks naturally into turns rather than fighting your biomechanics, creating a surfy feel perfect for all-mountain riding. The 2-degree canted footbed provides optimal stance alignment straight out of the box, while adjustable forward lean lets you fine-tune the highback’s angle for different riding styles or conditions. Medium flex strikes a nice balance for creative all-mountain riding, though Bataleon also offers a stiffer BlasterPRO version for riders wanting more response.
“When competitors unite behind a standard, that’s usually a sign they’re onto something good”
Roundup
Six years is a long gestation period, but the FASE system’s refinement shows in every detail. It might not be hands-free, but the Blaster is another clear step forward in the world of binding design, offering faster entry without any extra weight or special boots. Whether FASE becomes as ubiquitous as Supermatic or Step On remains to be seen, but when competitors unite behind a standard, that’s usually a sign they’re onto something good. The Blaster represents Bataleon’s best execution of the platform, seamlessly blending the new tech with their freestyle-friendly baseplate and signature style.
Pros:
- One-handed ankle strap operation delivers genuine convenience without proprietary boots
- AsymWrap baseplate provides surfy side-to-side flex with solid heel-to-toe power transfer
- It’s lightweight and feels just like a normal two-strap
Cons:
- FASE system still requires you to bend down and tighten your ankle strap
Tester Verdict
Ronan Thompson
I’ve ridden the Rome Katanas (which are based off the same baseplate as the Blasters) for a couple of seasons and I loved them. Super light, great support in the high back and I love the straps and the way they mould to your boot. After a couple of days on the Blasters, I actually think I prefer them. They’re just a little bit softer, but still with solid support in all the right places. It took a bit of time to set and get used to the FASE system, but once I had it dialled it was really impressive. It’s all about the back foot, you can sort it out so quickly and easily, even on the move.
