Best Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

Chosen by the Whitelines Test Team

Beer and kebab. Drum and Bass. Netflix and chill… some things were just made to go together: snowboarding and music is one such pair, forever intertwined in our dance through the cosmos.

Whether you listen to tunes while actually riding or not is a matter of personal preference, but since the sport was born snowboarders have been listening to music to get pumped up for a session, or on the way to one, and in the golden age of snowboarding videos the choice of music was almost as important to video parts as the riding itself.

“Since the sport was born snowboarders have been listening to music to get pumped up for a session”

If you like listening to beats on the go, a good set of headphones will pipe pure auditory goodness right into your eardrums, with the added bonus of shielding the rest of the world from your perhaps dubious tastes. From in-the-ear buds better suited to active pursuits to over-ear cans that shut out the noise on long journeys – or for channelling your inner Trevor Andrew on the mountain – we’ve assembled this shortlist of some of the best headphones for snowboarding.

The Best Snowboard Headphones For Winter 2018/19

Beats Powerbeats 3 Wireless Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: £169

Thanks to the over-ear clips, the Beats Powerbeats 3 headphones will stay put even if you spend the whole day going upside down in the park.

They’re wireless, which means less time threading cables into pockets, and the handy clip at the back ensures they’ll always sit exactly how you want them. Take calls on the hill with ease, or connect to any Bluetooth-enabled music device to get the tunes going.

These can run for up to 12 hours on a single charge, and have a rapid-charge system that gives you an hour of juice after just five minutes. Built for sport, these are water- and sweat-resistant too, and when you’d rather stash them they have their own handy carry case.

Beats Studio 3 Wireless Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: £299

If you’re going to ride with over-ear phones, then the Beats Stiudio 3 wireless headphones might be a risky option. They’re quite pricey, after all; perhaps the Beats EP model might be a better choice?

However, for long-haul travel to the mountains, these are excellent. Built-in noise cancelling prevents any jet engine/car motor/snoring from getting between you and your music, working well with the full seal provided by the ear pads.

Use them wireless or wired, with your phone or laptop – and if you’re a heavy Apple user, there’s a simple functionality for switching between the two. Dial back the sound cancelling and you’ll get a whopping 40 hours of battery (enough to get to New Zealand and back again, essentially), but even all features enabled you’re still good for just shy of a full day.

Bose SoundSport Wireless Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: £129

The Bose SoundSport Wireless headphones are, as you may have guessed, suitable for outdoor pursuits – and that includes snowboarding.

They’re designed to stay put even when you take a spill – but rather than having large hooks, these feature a subtle design that keeps the bud in place without having to hang anything over your ears.

They also create an effective seal over your eardrum, so if you’re wearing these on the hill you may want to pop ‘em out even when they’re not playing in order to get a full sense of what’s around you.

Both Bluetooth and NFC compatible, these pair easily to your device, with easy-access volume control right there on the wire. 6 hours of charge will do you most days on the hill, and three available sizes of buds give you just the right fit.

Skullcandy Hesh 3 Wireless Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: £89/€99

Skullcandy headphones are built with snowboarders in mind, and the Hesh 3 is no exception.

Their foldable design is ideal for getting to and from the mountains, and the long battery life (up to 22 hours) can get you through any number of airport transfers.

Skullcandy Ink’d Wireless Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: £45/€49

The Skullcandy crew want you to use their wares on the mountain, which is why the Skullcandy Ink’d Wireless headphones are backed by a two-year warranty. They’re also easily packable, with a robust flexible collar section.

The relatively hunky controls at each end make answering calls, skipping tracks and changing the volume hassle-free, and even with that the whole thing only weighs 24g.

8 hours of Bluetooth connectivity covers your music needs from first chair to last, and when you’ve turned them off you might even forget you’re wearing them at all.

Skullcandy Method Sport Wireless Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: £49/€59

The Skullcandy Method Sport Wireless headphones have much of the same tech, but in a more water-resitant design. If you want a pair that will also do you for running, cycling or anything else where you’re expecting to get a sweat on, these would be the ones to consider.

Despite that name, we’re sorry to report that they won’t help you get a decent method.

Vimana LTD Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: €49

These might not win any prizes for quality, but unless you’re a die-hard audio purist then you’ll be able to enjoy these. When you consider the price, they’re a great option for no-frills tuneage on the go.

Having said that, these boast a surprisingly good features package. Bluetooth connectivity will last up to 10 hours, and there’s a built-in mic for taking calls. They can fold away for easy stashing too.

Finally, these give you the chance to rep one of our favourite underdog snowboard brands as you journey to the mountains. A potential conversation-starter?

Yamaha EPHWS01 Wireless Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: £59

Whenever we see anything from Yamaha we can’t help but think of Marco Grilc in 91 Words For Snow (“Ya-ha-ma-ha!”). It makes more than just snowmobiles, of course, including a fine line in headphones.

First up are these sport-friendly ‘phones that are coated in a water-repellant film. An optional ear cuff helps to keep them in place, and they’re Bluetooth compatible too.

Up to eight different devices can be paired with these, as well as two at once. Perfect for making calls one minute, then getting back to the shred movies on your laptop the next.

Yamaha HPH-M82 Snowboard Headphones 2018-2019

PRICE: £75

The Yamaha HPH-M82 over-ear headphones have a slightly more unusual design, one that’s not as suitable for wearing on the hill.

However, they tick all the right boxes for travel, even if they’re without a wireless capability. The sound quality is excellent, and they’re nice and light too.

More fashion-focused than anything else on this list, the HPH M82 headphones are available in six bold colourways.
