The First Truly Fog-Free Goggle?

No matter how tech your goggle is, a bad stack is always going to result in the lens fogging up. The warmth from your face hitting the cold mountain air coincidently creates the perfect conditions for mist and lens fog.

Abominable Labs is claiming they’ve invented the first ever totally fog-free goggle: the F-BOM

But now one company – Abominable Labs – is claiming they’ve invented the first ever totally fog-free goggle: the F-BOM.

It’s said to work a bit like the heated rear window of a car, a small membrane in between the two lenses is warmed up with a lithium ion battery hidden in the frame and apparently gets rid of fog within seconds.

You can read more about the tech over on their Kickstarter page, where it looks like they’ll raise the $50k they’re after as they already been pledged ten grand in its first 24 hours online.

We at WL are curious as to wether this will work out in practice, the idea is sound at least unlike many other bizarre snowboard inventions. We’re normally of the opinion that snowboarding is best when it’s kept simple and when it comes to goggles riding fast and keeping your face out of the snow usually does the trick. Failing that, you can always dry them off in the nearest hand dryer. Still, we’d love to be proven wrong.

What do you reckon? Do you think this is the future of snowboarding face wear? Or are battery powered goggles a step too far in the wrong direction? Let us know below:
