These days, backcountry snowboarding is so saturated with riders who all kill it in their own right and that have such definitive personalities – y’know, the Travis Rice’s, Nicolas Müller’s, Gigi Rüf’s and Romain de Marchi’s of this world – that it can be really easy to overlook others. We reckon that Austrian rider Wolle Nyvelt undeservedly falls into this category. Having released twelve full parts with Absinthe Films and won the coveted Transworld Rider of the Year Award in 2008, Wolle is by default, a backcountry heavyweight, yet somehow doesn’t really seem to get as much mainstream media attention these days as some of his peers.
Watch him ride though and it’s easy to recognise the sheer talent that the man possesses, with a mean powder turn and some of the best noboard skills on the planet. Can you imagine riding a heavy line in Alaska without having your board strapped to your feet? Nope, neither can we. Anyways, check out Wolle’s Absinthe excellent pro spotlight here. As always there’s a ton of archive footage and some testimonials from all of the aforementioned big names. It’s well worth a watch if you’re not that familiar with Wolle – you really need to be.
