Behind the spot with Gigi Rüf

When Gigi Rüf proclaims that a kicker is one of his favourites ever, chances are it’s a pretty damn good jump. Presumably hidden somewhere deep in the Austrian Alps, the whippy, step-over style ‘beaverdam jump’ is the kind of kicker that manifests itself in this author’s snowboarding dreams on a regular basis – you know, the ones where you just keep spinning and spinning and spinning…

Gigi gives us some commentary on the jump (don’t worry, it’s nowhere near as cheesy as his voiceover in this) and we also get a bit of a history lesson on some of the tricks that have been thrown down on it in the past, including Tyler Chorlton’s rad ‘circus style’ triple frontflip attempt in the Pirates 2008 flick Overseas. It’s all interesting stuff and makes us want to track down the spot and send it to that beautifully steep landing ourselves. We might have to kidnap Gigi, stick him in a dark room with loads of menacing pointy objects and practice some questionable coercive techniques on him to find out its location though…

Some of these shots of Gigi will no doubt be appearing in the forthcoming Pirates film ‘Unique 8’ which we still are ridiculously excited to watch.
