John Jackson gives a backcountry freestyle masterclass in this edit that distills all the best riding out from his recent web series. HAMMERS!
In the ‘utterly bonkers yet calculated big mountain freestyle’ stakes, there are few riders that can go toe-to-toe with Travis Rice, but John Jackson is certainly one of them. Jackson arguably had the trick of the session on that yawning crevasse gap back in Art of Flight and he rides with a kind of aggression and raw power that you’d imagine would have Travis stroking his whiskers and nodding in appreciation.
Last season Jackson concentrated his efforts on filming a Red Bull TV series called ‘The Book of John J’. Like much that the Bull produce for the TV arm of their empire, it was aimed at a more mainstream audience and as such had a bunch of chat, lifestyle and whatnot surrounding the action, but when we caught an episode we were floored by just how hard John was sending it.
Thankfully someone saw fit to cut together just the riding highlights here, and it’s safe to say there were more than a few…
Oh, the wisdom that lies between the lines of “The Book of John J.” Penned by everyone’s favorite dreadlocked philosopher, John Jackson, it’s a roadmap to enlightenment that starts and finishes in the backcountry.
Jackson spent an entire winter season filming this series for Red Bull TV, giving you an unfiltered look at the life of a touring powder hound as well as a template for tapping into the type of bliss one can only find at the summit of a mountain.
Up top, we collected the best powder runs and POVs from Jackson’s full winter chasing snow — press play and let John J teach you how it’s done.
