Take fifteen minutes out to enjoy this brief history of one of snowboarding’s “weirdo companies” (their words, not ours) – CAPiTA Snowboards.
Born in the year 2000 out of a desire to shake up the sport and offer something new, CAPiTA was soon hoovering up pro riders and selling their instantly-recognisable decks worldwide. Not that it was always an easy ride, but despite long shifts, sleepless nights and flirtations with bankruptcy, CAPiTA has weathered every storm that’s threatened to derail it.
Nowadays they’ve graduated to their own manufacturing/testing facility in Austria (known as ‘the Mothership’), but the camaraderie remains – as does the quality. We rode a whole mess of their 2015/16 range and liked what we found, even awarding the CAPiTA Ultrafear the top spot in our Best Park Snowboards rundown.
Contributions to this retrospective come from current team riders Jess Kimura and Brandon Cocard as well as past masters Tyler Lapore, Seth Huot, Corey Smith and TJ Schneider, with co-founder Blue Montgomery running through the movie like letters in a stick of rock.
It’s not a mega-polished affair – most of the interviews appear to have been conducted via Skype – but as long as their focus remains on building the best sticks they can, that’s fine with us.
