Blindspot. | A short film by Dakine

Louif Paradis, Mark Wilson and Sam Taxwood travel from Georgia to Quebec

In Blindspot, the three musketeers Louif Paradis, Mark Wilson, and Sam Taxwood embark on a journey thats main aim is to draw a parallel between two very different destinations: Georgia and Quebec.

“Houses, hotels, and ski resorts were left without any human attention for years”

If you were given a map and were told to point out a place you thought to be one of the most unexplored destinations for a snowboarder to choose to travel to, we reckon Georgia might just be the first place your finger would go to. This country is at the very intersection of Europe and Asia, a cultural melting pot if you will.

It was only in 1991 that the Russians left this hidden gem of a country, and throughout the film, we get to see the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Houses, hotels, and ski resorts were left without any human attention for years, giving the Georgian towns a mystical feel of their own.

With the lack of any digital guides, the boys were taken back decades and had to navigate using paper maps. Considering how dependent we’ve become of digital navigation systems (and tech devices in general), this already feels like brave adventure territory.

Stunning views, old villages, and happy locals all feature… leaving us feeling a bit overwhelmed to be honest. Georgia is now top of our list for future snowboard trips.

“After Georgia, the boys decide to do a 180 and move over to the Canadian snowboard Mecca, Quebec”

After Georgia, the boys decide to do a 180 and move over to the Canadian snowboard Mecca, Quebec – conceivably one of the most visually well-known cities in snowboarding, making it the complete opposite of Georgia.

Blindspot’s take on snowboarding is refreshing, offering us high-class snowboarding accompanied by cultural education. It’s good to see something new and outstanding amid all the snowboard madness we become exposed to while scrolling down the gram.
