AKI’s Special Part

We got sent this part from Akifumi Hiraoka over the weekend, a perfect example of when the film really does live up to the title: this is pretty special.

AKI is one of the core members of the Japanese scene, helping to bring major contest like the Air& Style in as well as showcasing the Canadian backcountry to his home audience.

But like all snowboarders, what he does best is shred. And like most other Japanese riders, he shreds pow like nothing else.

There’s some gorgeously shot terrain in this clip, all being given the beans by AKI. There’s picturesque turns and methods as well as a fiery rodeo seven at 1.13 and a belter of a front three right at the end.

Rather like the Pilchard TV edit we posted last week, this edit excels in taking the slow road, the music playing as much of a part as the riding and cinematography. In fact, the piece here was composed specially for the part by friend of AKI and world famous jazz guitarist Yosuke Onuma.

All we can say is: winter cannot come quickly enough for us. Summertime is great, but nothing beats launching into that cool, crisp winter powder. Let it be November now!
