Terminal Ferocity | Revisiting A Classic from Lockdown Projects

The Snowboard Asylum has revived one of the UK's most iconic snowboard movies

Move over Natural Selection, this is the real snowboard event of the decade. Our esteemed friends over at The Snowboard Asylum have uploaded, in all its grainy glory, the Lockdown Projects defining movie, Terminal Ferocity. There aren’t many things that could take our attention away from re-watching Zoi Sadowski-Synnott stomping her winning run in Jackson Hole but, by God, this is one of them.

“They had an index finger placed firmly on the pulse of the UK scene, and probably a thumb or two shoved in some other unspeakable crevices”

In a feat of appellative foreshadowing that would rival even Billy Shakespeare himself, more than a decade before that rat bastard Covid locked us down, the aptly named Lockdown Projects set about making movies that highlighted the booming UK snowboard scene. Terminal Ferocity was filmed during the 2006/07 winter season, jet setting from Morzine to Uzbekistan in search of snow and featured a who’s who of UK snowboarding, including Jenny Jones, Tyler Chorlton, Dom Harrington and Scott McMorris.

This piece is on loan from the Louvre.

Known ubiquitously across the globe as Tim and Gendle’s finest work, Terminal Ferocity is the peak of British snowboard grit and culture. They had an index finger placed firmly on the pulse of the UK scene, and probably a thumb or two shoved in some other unspeakable crevices. In their heyday, such was the popularity of the Lockdown Projects films that a young Travis Rice clamoured to be involved but was rebuffed with a solid “no yanks allowed”.

“A first look at the ground-breaking helmet cam technology of the time”

This is a hark back in the good old days with a nostalgia inducing soundtrack that’ll have you longing for hazy nights long forgotten, a ball-shrinkingly spicy slam section, and even a first look at the ground-breaking helmet cam technology of the time.

Lockdown Projects Head Honchos

A word of warning to those born post-Y2K: you’re about to see pants baggy enough to fit the entire Von Trapp family in them, some questionable condom beanies, boot cut jeans and, perhaps, worst of all, studded belts. Some outfits are sitting just the right side of retro garish but unfortunately most aged about as well as ‘the magic mineral’, fireproof asbestos.
