Winter X Games 2013: Kelly Clark wins Superpipe, Elena Hight lands first competition double cork

Foggy, snowy and warm didn’t make for great conditions at this years Womens Halfpipe Finals but this didn’t stop the girls from sending it in some super steezy style . Kelly Clark claimed the top spot – averaging 4 ft (yep 4 ft!) higher than the rest of girls and came in at 90.33 – only 0.33 ahead of Elena Hight, the second success story of the night.

Hight pulled it out of the bag by landing the first ever backside ally-oop double rodeo 900, which initiated a cat and mouse chase between her and Clark for the majority of the event, until she was over taken by Kelly’s run of a massive frontside 1080 to a cab 720 to a frontside 900, highlighted by a mega boost of 14 ft out of the halfpipe. Some pretty impressive numbers huh?

Modest as ever Clark said following her win, ” It’s amazing being here and claiming gold for the third time in a row, I only won by a small margin, but tonight was not about my win, it was what Elena has done for Womens Snowboarding, i’m so proud of her”. Everybody say ‘Ahhh’.

You cant however talk about this years women’s super pipe and not mention Colarado’s own Arielle Gold, who walked away with 3rd place for her frontside 900, backside 540 to frontside 540 and frontside 720 to cab 900. At 16 years old, it was her first X Games – with her being pulled in after Gretchen Bleiler dropped out due to medical reasons, and she absolutely killed it. With this cheeky boost on to the podium she’s maintained her top spot on the World Snowboard Tour rankings for Women’s Halfpipe. Pretty sweet story isn’t it.
