Hawaii-born Elena has been one of halfpipe’s biggest names for the best part of a decade. She first appeared on the scene in 2002 as a precocious 13-year-old, landing the first ever 900 in halfpipe competition. Four years later she was representing Team USA in the Torino Olympics, finishing 6th overall, and went on to bag several medals at the likes of the Dew Tour and X Games. She returned to Olympic competition in 2010, earning another top 10 finish.
In 2013, she became the first woman to stomp a double of any kind in pipe competition, putting down an alley-oop backside double rodeo which placed her on the X Games Europe podium.
Given the strength of the US pipe contingent, she didn’t qualify for Sochi 2014. However, we’ll bet that she’s going to have her sight set on the next Olympic cycle.
