There was nothing new, or particularly spectacular, in the pipe. And then there was the withdrawal from the slopestyle – with the sprained ankle and the hammed-up selfie posted to Instagram.
Shaun needs the slopestyle practise (and the US team qualification points) as much as anyone, so we doubt he would have pulled out if he didn’t have to. But even without getting to see him in the finals, we have to ask: If he wasn’t learning new tricks for this contest season, just what was he doing in that private pipe down under?
Could it be that he actually didn’t manage to stomp anything new? Will there be no 2014 equivalent of 2010’s “Tomahawk”? Or is Shaun just playing his cards very close to his chest, keeping his powder dry until closer to the games?
