Whitelines at the UK Boardtest FULL STORY

Last month Whitelines was in Austria for the annual snowboard test. Anyone who’s been to a glacier camp will know that the slopes are only really rideable until the early afternoon and there is bugger all to do for the rest of the day except practise your yodelling.

With this in mind, we teamed up with Lib Tech and Quiksilver to bring the mountain to Mohammed, in the form of the inaugural Banana Rail Jam. With the help of the nice folk at Kaunertal resort, a few tons of snow plus a railslide and funbox were deposited in a field opposite the popular Pfiff Alm bar.

It was soon clear that our puny shovels and a single wheelbarrow were not up to the task so we collared a passing Austrian farmer and he kindly agreed to move the pile up the hill with his mini JCB (everyone should own one of these puppies). Without his intervention we’d probably still be shovelling today…

With the snow roughly in place, Damo Doyle – chief shaper at Castleford SNO!zone and the man behind the StandingSideways films – marshalled the troops and we soon had us a smooth-looking take-off and landing.

James Thorne grabbed a megaphone, the Mercedes car stereo was turned up to “11” and Richard from Lib Tech (the geordie chap pictured here with the man boobs and the freakishly long tongue) donned his banana outfit. It was game on! Fuelled on banana punch, a sizeable crew of some of the UK’s most talented and downright keen rail riders began sessioning the set-up, stepping up their tricks with every run.

As you can see from the pictures and video, the standard of riding was ridiculous. It seems the domes are churning out some world class jibbing talent. Special mention goes to Little Will Smith, James Hull and Jonny Russell, who impressed everyone with their technical wizardry – check out Will’s trick on 2m12s. Siiiick!

Thanks to everyone who helped out, whether lugging rails, shovelling snow or handing out punch. The Banana Rail Jam will be back bigger and better next year….
