Slush is a wonderful thing, in the right circumstances – and when it’s April, you’ll find plenty of it in Laax. Unfortunately the soft snow wasn’t ideal for the first event of the British Championships 2016, and so the slopestyle had to scrap the final and instead take place as a ‘two runs, best run counts’ format.
Luckily the visibility was good, and several of the UK’s finest riders had come to play. Billy Morgan and Katie Ormerod were among those on the start list, the former having put knee problems fully behind him with a win at Spring Battle. Not that his joints would get an easy time of it today, forced to absorb a hefty drop to flat at the bottom of the course that might have sent a lesser man back to the operating theatre.
