Mikkel Bang & Sina Candrian Win US Open Slopestyle

Norwegian Mikkel Bang has claimed the men’s US Open slopestyle title and a phat cheque for $20,000, thanks to a run which combined his famously casual style with some mad tech. Meanwhile Sina Candrian from Switzerland took the women’s honours.

“It’s my seventh year coming here to the US Open and the first time I’ve made it to the slopestyle podium,” said Mikkel. “All of the top riders are here, which makes it even more special to win. This really is the perfect ending of the season for me.”

Bang took the lead in his first run, then topped it with a nearly perfect 98.00 on his second, which included a Cab 1080, switch backside 1260 indy and a frontside 1080 over the giant booters. In the women’s competition, the UK’s Jenny Jones was a non-starter (we’re not sure why yet but we think through injury) leaving Sina Candrian to grab the win with a run which included a Cab 540, frontside 720 and a backside 360.

“Today was really my day because my runs kept getting better and better,” said Sina. “The features were perfectly shaped and the course was fun to ride – it’s amazing to win here and I’m so happy that it put me in the lead for the women’s TTR title.”

Today sees the flagship halfpipe competition as well as the crowning of the men’s TTR World Champion Peetu Piroinen, who sewed up a second consecutive title earlier this month.
