Groms Go Wild

Groms Go Wild at Kirkwood for 1st Annual Rip Curl GromSearch Slopestyle Comp

With hot action and killer conditions, groms across North America lit up Tahoe’s finest terrain this past Saturday at Kirkwood Resort for the 1st Annual Rip Curl GromSearch. When all said and done, Tre Charrette and Lexi Hooper stood on top the podium, crowned 1st annual Rip Curl GromSearch Champions.

“Everyone one is going big out here today,” Tre states following his first run. “I know I have to go bigger and faster. I want to keep my flow and throw it down.”

Throw it down is exactly what he did, starting it off with two rail bangers and finishing off strong with a massive backside three. Matthew Jones gave Tre a run for his money, falling short by one point.

Lexi Hooper’s aggressive style on the terrain, left spectators eyes wide open. “I’m a little scared of the kink-rail, but I’m here to win,” said Lexi. It didn’t show, as she attacked each rail fearless and determined, backing it up with huge airs and clean style. Mylah Proctor stepped her game up, but couldn’t stop Lexi in her quest for GromSearch glory.

Other shredders on the day were; Marco Gooding, Lukias Cook and Christopher Keim. All three riders solidified themselves as standouts in competitive snowboarding. As well as Max Owen, this year’s youngest competitor at 7, proving the youth movement is as strong as ever.
