Jenny Jones second at US Open

Jenny Jones of Great Britain put in a storming run on her way to second place in the slopestyle competition at the US Open held at Mammoth Mountain, California. Conditions were not ideal, as the weather alternated between clouds, snow, wind and sun. Jones remained in the hot seat for a while before Norway’s Kjersti Buass came down to take the win.

Jamie Anderson, the youngest gold medal winner in X-Games history was considered the most likely contender to take the Swatch TTR title, however in picking up an injury at the US Open, the door has been left open for other riders to close the gap. Kjersti Buass of Norway is one such contender and following her win at the US Open, has demonstrated she is more than capable of seizing the opportunity. The pressure will be on Buass to perform, needing a good result in the halfpipe contest if she is to make a challenge for the overall. The USA’s Kelly Clark will have other ideas and is more than capable of bursting Buass’ bubble.

There are a number of contenders looking to step it up at the Roxy Chicken Jam, the final event on the women’s FWT calendar this year. Current world number two, Lisa Wiik of Norway, has put in some solid performances this season, most notably a first place in the slopestlye contest at the season opener, the 6Star Burton European Open in Laax, and will be looking to finish the season the way it began. Germany’s Silvia Mittermueller has also had some good results, and is more than capable of kicking up a storm at Mammoth. With $200,000 in prize money and invites to the major events next season up for grabs, competition for the top three spots will undoubtedly be fierce.
