Dew Tour: Killington Wrap Up

The Halfpipe at Killington, Vermont, was particularly icy for the competitors to ride on this year

The Winter Dew Tour this weekend, funded by American sugar-water company ‘Mountain Dew’, showcased some of the best up and coming talent, combined with some of the most established names in the boarding industry. The conditions in Vermont, especially at this time of year are blisteringly icy, and it made conditions on the halfpipe difficult to control.

However, Utah boy Louie Vito didn’t seem to be phased by the slippery halfpipe, making this weekend his third title this season. He went into the lead after the first round, but whipped out back-to-back double corks, a frontside 10 and a frontside tailgrab just to rub salt in the freezing wounds of the other competitors – a score of 93.00. Not bad.

Vermont-native Kelly Clark, fresh from her win at the Burton European Open in Laax last week, seemed to be on form as she glided to glory with a new Dew Tour record score of 95.75:

“Every day is a new day and it’s hard to take the scale from one event to the next in a great sport like snowboarding. I’m really happy with the way I rode and I walked away with a win I can be happy with. It’s definitely a big win for me today. It’s always fun to come home and do well in front of your friends and family. So many people from Vermont have been supporting me for so long that it’s nice to come back and do well.”

In the slopestyle event, it was once again Torstein Horgmo and Jamie Anderson who came out on top, making the Dew Tour their third win each of the season. Horgmo’s battle for the top spot was a little easier than Anderson’s, who was neck and neck with Spencer O’Brien right up until the last run of the finals. The two had been playing leapfrog throughout the entire competition, but the Lake Tahoe girl pulled it out the bag under pressure and regained her title as Slopestyle champion.

Here’s Torstein’s winning run, cheekily videotaped by a mate and uploaded on Horgmo’s page. It’s as if the whole event was run by an evil corporation:
