So Shaun White has dropped off the radar since he failed to mount the Olympic podium last month. Word on the street is he’s taking time out of snowboarding to focus on his band……..
Until this popped up on YoBeat – Shaun White teaching Vogue editor Hamish Bowles how to snowboard! Yep, from the lofty heights of Sochi halfpipe to the nursery slopes of Vermont.
There was a big feature in American Vogue’s February issue imaginatively entitled “Shredding with Shaun White” to coincide with the Winter Olympics. So, presumably someone up at Vogue HQ thought it would be an EXCELLENT idea to get Señor Blanco to strap in with Hamish on the nursery slopes.
The result is a pretty excruciating watch. Cue obligatory non-descript “action sports music” and Hamish being lead along the flat by his hand, while three people dance around him, trying to cushion his fall.
The fabulously camp Hamish even got his own Vogue snowboard made by the Burton guys. There’s a whole photo gallery with some amazing captions from Mr Bowles himself.
Personal favourite: “This is the deliciously named Thunder, master craftsman and resident guru of snowboard manufacturing. Here he shapes my board on a dry grinder, which sounds rather naughty, doesn’t it?”
We haven’t read the printed piece we’re pretty sure it will be your standard mainstream media fare. Although they did manage to convince the guys at Burton to make a full-on Vogue snowboard, so they must be doing something right.
Another cracking caption: “That heavenly lilac flower-print is taken from a beloved Tom Ford tuxedo that I wore to a birthday party (I also wore it in pink to Kate Moss’s wedding).”
