Sandbox was the brain child of Kevin Sansalone who grew up in the mountains of North Vancouver and Whistler. Kevin is a legend in his own right and his brand of helmets have become a popular option for anyone who snowboards and values what’s inside their head.
In the late 80s and early 90s, Kevin rode with friends and soon found himself catapulted into the crazy world of snowboarding professionally. He travelled the globe competing, filming and partying and in 2004 he started Sandbox films. Sandbox made several films on 16mm film before moving into the protection market, making helmets that suit the needs of today’s top riders.
Kevin can remember the days when all you needed to do to win a big air competition was land on your feet, nowadays with kids sending triple corks over icy jumps there’s a clear demand for stylish and comfortable safety equipment.
Sandbox is rider owned and makes products that help the very best push the limits. They’ll also protect your noggin if you take a tumble on or off piste. Helmets are a pretty good idea if you want to protect your head and are becoming more widely used by pro riders as the consequences of stacking big tricks become worse. What’s more, helmets are becoming a requirement in more and more snow parks and at all snowdome freestyle nights, so Sandbox are making great products that are actually useful to your average British rider. They also sponsor Will Smith. Not the famous actor but the up and coming rail destroyer of Grindhouse fame.
