Kicking things off on the shores of the Pacific back in ’85, Giro Helmets originally began developing cycle helmets for the peleton, mountain chargers and easy cruisers of the sunshine state. It wasn’t until 1999 that they started making lids for us sideways standers.
Now Giro are one of the biggest players in the helmet market, with a team roster as long as the BFG’s arm, their lids are always bopping out the pipe in competitions or rotating at dizzy speeds through the slopestyle course.
In 2007 they introduced their first goggle line at ISPO in Münich and quickly followed up their launch with an exclusive deal with Finnish slayer Antti Autti which continues to this day. In the UK, Madison signed on the dotted line in 2009 to distribute the helmets to keep us all safe and they quickly snapped up some of the UK’s finest talent with riders such as Jenny Jones, Ben Kilner and Scott McMorris.
Unfortunately, Madison and Giro’s marital bliss came to an end earlier this year after some dispute over the importation of so called ‘grey’ products. As of yet, there’s been no news over what the new plans for Giro are in the UK which is a shame as in this authors opinion, they’re pretty damn good at keeping your brain inside your head.
