It seems former Whitelines editor and BBC Ski Sunday presenter Ed Leigh just couldn’t hold back his competitive nature at the British Championships in Laax this week, as several reports are coming forward that the ex-pro may have used foul-play tactics to help him on his way to the Masters Boardercross Gold medal…
The Masters age category events (reserved for the over 30s) are normally subject to a bit of friendly rivalry, but with a particularly strong line up this year, it appears that the desire to acquire the coveted top spot was at an all time high.
“Anyone who saw Ed on the day could tell that something was up”, says Spencer Claridge, Brits organiser and 2016 Masters 6th Place “he kept asking frantically for tools, and spent far too long hovering around the other riders’ kit. We had to have a word more than once.”
Jenny Jones, pictured above with Ed, agrees “Ever since I won that Bronze, Ed’s been like Smaug on a rampage. The slightest whiff of something shiny and he’s a completely different person! We walked past H. Samuels the other day and it was like he went into a trance…”
David Blackwell, one time Whitelines contributor claims “I couldn’t even get to the start line with all Ed’s tampering. Bolts everywhere! We spotted him the night before the event performing some strange ritual with red wine and olive oil. I think he’s lost it.”
Chris Moran, 9th place, was publicly congratulatory to Ed on his win, but later confessed to Whitelines: “I was worried that if I really gave it 100% in the race, he [Ed] might flip out. We all knew what this meant to him and sometimes you’ve got to make sacrifices to keep the peace.”
Brits organisers are yet to confirm whether an investigation into the result will take place. We’ll keep you informed with new information as and when it breaks…
