The second leg of the Westbeach Snowflex Tour invited competitors up to the far north of the country to compete in the seismic showdown that rocked Glasgow’s Bearsden dryslope. Westbeach’s Sue Garlick sent us this match report…

“The first question you have to ask after seeing the standard of riding thrown down at Bearsden this last weekend is, what they hell do they feed these guys (especially the McCormicks)? The competition was one of the best in the whole history of the series even if I did get a board edge to the ankle, ouch.

The atmosphere was buzzing, loads of spectators to cheer, ale to help them cheer, a DJ with real vinyl records, amazing weather, egg butties and cups of tea… rock and roll. Maybe this is what spurred on all the competitors to shred in what can only be called some of the best riding seen in the UK this year (either that or the influx of wasps?)

The day?s events started a little late waiting for the true northerners from Aberdeen to make it to the comp but they rocked up and the shred off started. Whilst nobody held back all day the super final saw Rome’s Will Smith, Legion and Freeze?s Marc McClement and Grenade’s Danny McCormick battling it out with 7?s,10?s and rodeos.

In the end it was Marc?s clean as 1080 that stole the 1st place along with the Endeavor prize. This was chosen by Endeavor rider and judge Mike Austin and earns Marc a place out to the next leg in Noeux Les Mines with the Endeavor team. Danny came in 2nd place and Will 3rd.

The under 16?s killed it too, going huge off Bearsden?s sick kicker we saw Matthew Cory take 3rd, Pete Meadows come in 2nd and Matt McCormick take 1st place.

The girls riding saw steezy nose grabs, huge 3?s and sleek 5?s. In the end Sophie Addison took 3rd place, Liz Osbourne took 2nd (how does she go so big?) and
Lynsey Ashdown bagged 1st place. Charli Witts took home a subscription to Whitelines for her first time skills on snowflex…

The judges found it super hard to judge throughout all the categories as the bag of tricks and steez shown throughout the day was stand out and literally the shizzle. Gareth Mclean deserves a special shout out for his attempts at the double front flip. He didn?t manage to stick it clean and so just missed out on the final, but it was gnarly nonetheless. Richard Bogie took home the Document best unsponsored prize earning him a column in Document (if he hadn?t buggered off before prize giving).

Best of all, the weather stayed on side all day, the slope stayed wet, the wasps kept chasing, the quarter pipe jam session went off, prizes were thrown out, faces were scuffed on snowflex, the team event went off and eventually small children were trampled… All in all a kick ass day… Roll on Noeux Les Mines.”
